Heartland St. Paul, MN, USAWe wanted to find a place to impress my husband's parents, and we thought Heartland would be just the place. I was rather surprised when we pulled up to the building. You could almost miss it except for a small sign that says heartland. I was surprised again when we walked in. I thought it would have more character. It seemed a bit cold. Don't get me wrong, it was nice. It had white tableclothes and candles, it just wasn't what I was expecting.
We were seated immediately and served bread right it way. It was very good. I had maple bread, which I have never had before. They also gave us a mini appetizer right away which was a nice treat, it tasted fresh from the garden.
For my meal, I had cream of carrot soup which was spectacular. I also had a pork chop, potatoes, and mushrooms. It was a very big plate. Especially compared to the sturgeon that my husband had. The potatoes were the best I have ever had, they just melted in my mouth. The pork chops were fabulous as well.
For dessert we had a chocolate/cinnamon/caramel. I thought it was going to be more like solid chocolates, but it was very light, kind of like a creme brulee. It was probably the perfect thing for us since we were incredibly full.
Our waitress was very attentive, but yet not what I expected. I'm use to having more of a friendly outgoing personality when I go to nicer restaurants. She wasn't rude, just kind of did her job and that was that.
All in all, the food is to die for! I still have to put this 2nd because my favorite still is La Belle Vie.
